Telangana Assembly Election Kicks Off with Special Provisions for Elderly and Persons with Disabilities

In a significant move towards inclusive and accessible democratic practices, the voting process for the Telangana Assembly election initiated with a focus on voters aged 80 and above, as well as persons with disabilities. A total of 838 individuals falling under these categories were identified by the returning officers across various Assembly constituencies in the district. These voters were recognized through Form-12D issued by the Election Commission of India.

In an effort to make the democratic process more accommodating, 26 voters in the Secunderabad constituency utilized the home voting facility on Monday. This special provision, as detailed by a press note from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, mirrors the traditional polling booth setup, complete with a secret ballot.

The home voting process witnessed the active involvement of party agents, polling officers, assistant polling officers, sectoral officers, and police personnel, ensuring a secure and transparent procedure. Notably, the entire process was meticulously videographed to maintain transparency and uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation clarified that the home voting procedure, which commenced in the Secunderabad constituency on Monday, will extend to all other constituencies starting Tuesday. A press release assured that every effort would be made to facilitate home voting for those identified, and in cases where the voter is not present at home, polling staff is prepared to make additional visits.

This initiative aims to streamline the voting process for individuals who may face challenges in reaching polling booths due to age or disabilities, promoting a more inclusive and representative democratic exercise. The election authorities remain committed to ensuring that every eligible voter, regardless of their circumstances, can actively participate in shaping the future of Telangana through the democratic process.
